- Despite an initial low count, habitat conditions inside and outside of our state tend to favor Louisiana waterfowl hunters.
- Lee Comer was hunting on 129 acres located near Black Lake in Natchitoches Parish on Nov. 13 when he took this trophy 11-point buck.
- Brandon Cartinez was hunting near his home in Sabine Parish when he killed this trophy 13-point buck on Nov. 15.
- The LWFC has adopted a resolution to expand the Dewey W. Wills WMA by 2,440 acres to incorporate riparian river bank property.
- Hunter Frey left his hunting trip in Missouri to return home and kill this big Concordia Parish buck on Nov. 19.
- The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission adopted a notice of intent to modify crappie regulations on Bayou D’Arbonne Lake.
- Leigh McClendon was hunting on family land in Grant Parish when he killed this great 11-point buck on Nov. 14.
- On Nov. 11, 2022, Jordan Jones took this impressive 12-point buck while hunting on his 450 acre farm in DeSoto Parish.
- On Nov. 25, Ben White was hunting on public land in Madison Parish when he took a 15-point buck with his CVA 350 Legend primitive firearm.
- Garrett Thibodeaux killed an impressive 11-point buck on Oct. 16 at the Grand Lake Hunting Club in Avoyelles Parish.
- Collin Riddle of Marksville took an impressive 10-point buck with his Mathews bow on Oct. 10 in Avoyelles Parish.
- Colton Frizzell, a 31-year-old firefighter and paramedic from Vivian, killed this 13-point on Nov. 19 at his hunting lease in Caddo Parish.
- Amanda Weaver shot this Caddo Parish buck that carried an almost perfectly symmetrical 12-point rack on Nov. 25.
- Brad Smith was hunting on private land owned by a friend in Lincoln Parish when he downed an 11-point buck on Oct. 29.
Hot Spots - January 2023
- January is the time of year that Toledo Bend bass start to migrate a little and biologically get ready to spawn.
- One of Adam Marceaux’s favorite places to catch bass in January is specifically Little Tensas Bayou in the Atchafalaya Basin.
- Campo’s marina owner Robert Campo said if two things happen this month, the famous “Redfish Jubilee” will occur at Shell Beach.
Field Notes - January 2023
- Using a pirogue or jon boat to creep along creeks, sloughs, and lake edges can be an effective way to hunt this time of year.
