For all their glitz and glamour, tarpon are very close to just being giant pogies (menhaden) that eat fish. They are really primitive beasts. On the evolutionary scale, they and their close cousins ladyfish and bonefish are just one step ahead of garfish and bowfin (choupique), but more primitive than eels, shad, sardines and pogies.[…]

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that the 2018 spring inshore shrimp season will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, from the Mississippi/Louisiana state line westward to the western shore of Freshwater Bayou Canal except for the following waters: Lake Pontchartrain, Chef Menteur and Rigolets Passes, Lake Borgne, the Louisiana portion of Mississippi Sound, and the open waters of Breton and Chandeleur Sounds.[…]
