A delicious combination of soft dough and flavorful fillings
Blanket dumplings are a warm, comforting dish made by wrapping flavorful fillings in soft dough, creating a cozy meal that is perfect for cold days or family gatherings.
These dumplings can be filled with ingredients such as seasoned meat, vegetables, cheese or potatoes, depending on the recipe and tradition. Ground wild game is especially good for these bite-size morsels.
After being prepared, these dumplings are usually cooked by steaming, boiling, baking or simmering them in a savory sauce or broth. The soft outer layer becomes tender, while the filling develops rich, delicious flavors.
Blanket dumplings are often served with gravy, melted butter, herbs or a flavorful dipping sauce. They can also be customized with different spices and fillings to suit individual tastes.
INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING:
¼ cup green onion (thinly sliced)
1 tbsp. minced garlic
1 tbsp. minced ginger
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1 tbsp. rice vinegar
2 tsp. sesame oil
Seasoning to taste
INGREDIENTS FOR DUMPLINGS:
28 wonton wrappers
Oil to coat bottom of skillet
½ cup water
Sweet and sour sauce for dipping
Chili crisp oil for topping (optional)
Sesame seeds for topping (optional)
PREPARATION: Serves 6
- In a medium mixing bowl, mix all the filling ingredients.
- Heat a large nonstick pan on medium heat and coat with oil. I used my Blackstone griddle for this.
- Once hot, use a small spoon or cookie scoop to evenly portion meatballs made with the filling mixture onto the pan, making sure to leave enough space between for the wonton wrappers.
- Let cook for approximately 2 minutes.
- Lay a wonton wrapper over each meatball, gently tucking in the sides.
- Pour in ½ cup water, cover with lid, and cook 6-7 minutes.
- Garnish with chili crisp oil and/or sesame seeds.
- Serve with a dipping sauce. We prefer sweet and sour sauce.
