The Ghost Minnow we used to catch trout on this trip was the same one Capt. James Wilson used to put together 30 straight limits of speckled trout.[…]

The particular area that produced all these limits of speckled trout for Capt. James Wilson is a part of the Clovelly Oil Field. The canal that comes out in the middle of Little Lake is a part of it, but the other part, where we fished, is the south end by Brusle.[…]

“On days with wind, say a brisk north wind blowing 15 to 20 mph, I’ll fly out here and land in the cove, and we’ll have Breton Island all to ourselves,” Bourgeois said. “Boats won’t make that run from any port in those winds and seas.[…]

“I’ll fish Gosier two days after a front, when we have a bluebird sky and very little wind,” Bourgeois said. “The cooler November weather means you don’t have to start fishing as early in the mornings, and between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. is perfect for fishing reds on the flats at Gosier.[…]

“This island is just a long, beautiful stretch of shells, about a mile long,” Bourgeois said. “Once you step off the island into the water, the depth drops off fast and steep, so we don’t even wade in the water here.[…]

On the west side of the Mississippi River, Bourgeois has many options, with some good walkable islands with either shells or a hard sand bottom scattered from Barataria Bay to Timbalier Bay.[…]
