Limited-access area equipment for walk in hunters

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries has set aside 3,250 acres on the Atchafalaya Delta WMA as a limited-access area. In other words, no motorized boats are allowed.

Those who decide to hunt the limited-access area must either walk in or use a pirogue to navigate. Trolling motors are allowed, but with conditions typically shallow during the fall and winter, more often than not you’re walking.

Hunters should plan to bring a pirogue, push pole and paddle, if only to haul gear on the limited-access area. The ’rogue can then be usied as a platform to keep equipment from getting wet as the tide rises during your hunt.
