Hopedale hotspots full of hard-plastic-munching specks

The action out of Hopedale could hardly be any better than it is right now.

Capt. Charlie Thomason has been leaving his dock just before sunrise every morning and returning in the early afternoon with heavy ice chests.

And best of all, he hasn’t had to run outside.

The specks, reds and drum have been ultra-thick in Lake of Two Trees, Lake Machias, Lake Calabasse and Seven Dollar Bay, and Thomason has been having a particularly good time throwing She Dogs to the trout.

Be sure to watch the attached video to learn how you can get in on the action.

On Tuesday (April 24), the fish wouldn’t touch topwaters because of the low temperatures brought on by last weekend’s cold front, but they smashed MirrOdines, Catch 5s and Corkys.

Thomason has caught some 5-pounders in recent weeks, and fooled a 4-pounder Tuesday with a MirrOdine.

The area is also full of drum, and catching them has been as easy as throwing dead shrimp around points. The schools on Tuesday were unmistakable in the calm water.
