500 acres in Gregg Lake area to be treated for giant salvinia, LDWF says
Weather permitting, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has scheduled an aerial herbicide application on Lake Bistineau for Thursday, September 28 to control large expanses of giant salvinia that are inhibiting access.
The aerial application will treat select areas where giant salvinia growth is particularly heavy, encompassing roughly 500 acres in the Gregg Lake area of Lake Bistineau, according to a press release.
The herbicides are approved by the EPA for use in aquatic environments, but the LDWF asks that boaters avoid the application area. Recreational activities will not be restricted on other areas of the lake, according to the release.
