Bank-fishing fit for a king

In some cases, bank-fishing can make you king.

That happened to Farmerville’s Andy Taylor earlier this year when he and his father entered the annual King of Kings tournament on Lake D’Arbonne.

The unusual format of this event allows anglers to fish from boats, piers or the bank.

The Taylors were having boat issues, so they just put up their $20 entry fee and fished from the bank.

Taylor was fishing along the edge of Ramp Road and talking to several anglers in boats out in front of him when he noticed his cork had gone out of sight.

He reeled up the slack and fought in a 2-pound crappie that was the biggest of the day.

Taylor caught the slab on a shiner in 2 feet of water as at least six boating fishermen looked on.

And it not only made him “king” — he won $500, to boot.
