More than ducks at Honey Brake Lodge

One of the fastest-growing names in duck-hunting circles is Honey Brake Lodge located on the banks of Larto Lake in central Louisiana approximately 40 miles east of the Alexandria/Pineville area.

But as famous as it is becoming for duck hunting, Honey Brake Lodge is also a great place to catch a fish.

“The lodge is a unique place, with lots of fishing opportunities,” said Porter Trimble, who takes care of the lodge’s promotional and marketing efforts. “We’re actually right on the bank of Larto Lake, and we’re really close to the Red River, Black River and Little River.

“Plus, we’ve got a lot of small, local lakes that help round out the fishing.”

With so many places at their disposal, the guides at Honey Brake Lodge are able to offer clients the best chance of catching fish with their first choice always being Larto Lake.

“But we’re going to find the fish biting somewhere,” Trimble said. “If they’re biting better somewhere else, that’s where we’re going to go. Most of the time we give clients the choice of what they want to do, and they almost always say they just want to catch some fish no matter where it is.”

Crappie are at the top of the list at the Saline/Larto complex, as it is known as one of the most-productive crappie lakes in the nation.

But anglers can also tangle with largemouth bass at the nearby rivers and some of the smaller lakes.

“We do the guided fishing trips all year long,” Trimble said, “so there is a lot more to Honey Brake Lodge than duck hunting. Duck hunting, sporting clays, fishing, deer hunting coming up in the future: We can do it at Honey Brake.”
