Braided lines for punching the grass

Pulling big bass through grass mats requires tough line, and “tough” means braided line for most bass anglers.

There are many brands of braid on the market. Spiderwire offers several, including Ultracast Fluoro-braid, Stealth Braid and Stealth Code Red Braid.

The nice thing about braided lines is that there is little to no stretch and you can use smaller tackle because the line diameter is so small.

In the three aforementioned products, the diameter of 30-pound-test line is the equivalent of 8-pound monofilament.

Additionally, line visibility isn’t as much of an issue when punching grass, as it would be when tossing baits. Therefore, braided lines are optimally suited for this technique.
