Time to use this hot technique for speckled trout

This week, my buddy Justin Bowles and I backed his bay boat out of his on-the-water slip with one goal in mind: to catch big speckled trout on hard-plastic jerkbaits. So we headed to an annual wintertime hotspot, the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, with the sun barely beginning to brighten the eastern horizon.

Armed with a suspending FishLab Bio-Minnow, I got the first connection of the day, and it proved to be a beautiful fish — well worth the trip — but it was far from the last bite of the day.
