Fishing Bayou Thomas and the MRGO rocks for speckled trout

There were so many jumping shrimp, but so few speckled trout and certainly no shortage of diving seagulls.

We started the day fishing a favorite community hole in Lake Borgne that, a long time ago, was one of many bayous leading into the marsh surrounding New Orleans.

Today it’s become a large pass that white shrimp are known to use during their fall migration.

But here’s the crazy part: it’s December.

And despite it being what is technically a winter month, water temps were just beginning to reach the 50s and things were still behaving very much like fall.

It was a little bit of a grind, but we were able to put together a two-man limit of speckled trout.
