Aerial fish stocking

Don’t be alarmed if you see flying fish in Utah. They stock high-elevation lakes aerially each summer.

According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, this aerial method of stocking is much quicker and less stressful for the fish. They’ve had success stocking fish into mountain lakes like this since the 1950s. They used to load fish into milk cans and use horses to get into these remote areas.

Because the fish are small and released along with water, the Utah DWR says they easily survive their aerial drop without injury. They sure get one heck of a ride though!
