According to Chas Champange, owner of Matrix Shad, any time between March and May is prime time for spring speckled trout fishing in Lake Pontchartrain. Champagne fished Lake Pontchartrain on Monday, April 27, and found some fish on the trestles. He caught them using a lemon head Matrix Shad on a 3/8-ounce jig head. While the lake still has dirty water from a high Pearl River and the Bonnet Carre Spillway, Champagne reports that anglers can still find trout in the lake if they can locate the clean water.
