The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) would like to thank all hunters who participated in the first-ever experimental black-bellied whistling duck (BBWD) season and reminds waterfowl hunters who participated to report both harvest and effort. Even if you did not hunt, but obtained the BBWD permit, you are required to complete a report to be eligible for the permit next year. This special season would not have been possible without the leadership of Governor Jeff Landry and our partnership with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Because this was an experimental season, it was important that hunters only shot BBWD, and based on LDWF’s observations, hunters showed overwhelming compliance with shooting only this target species. By being good stewards in your participation out in the field, you helped to make this season a historic success.
Reporting must be done by Oct. 26 at the black-bellied whistling duck reporting page or by visiting Louisiana Outdoors at the LDWF website.
