One by one, we baited 30 wire traps with oily cut-bait. We tossed them along the muddy banks where the hydrilla grew thick. Leaving them to soak overnight, anticipation was running high by the time we returned at daybreak. Grabbing the first neon float, the line pulled taut with an unexpected, heavy drag. As the trap broke the surface, we could see giant crawfish inside.
