LDWF to host fishing event at Bogue Chitto State Park Nov. 3

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and Bogue Chitto State Park invite you to Get Out & Fish! on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Bogue Chitto State Park in Franklinton, Louisiana. The pond will be stocked prior to the event with 800 pounds of adult Channel Catfish. This event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Come out and learn how to fish with LDWF staff and volunteers that will be available to teach the skills necessary to give you the best opportunity to catch fish. From lessons on bait choice, tackle setup, casting, and knot tying to fishing techniques, landing, handling and taking the fish off the hook, they have you covered. Free bait and tackle will be provided, and rod and reels will be available for those who need one for the day on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Participants 18 and older must possess a valid Louisiana fishing license available for purchase online at louisianaoutdoors.com/licenses. Don’t forget to bring an ice chest to keep your catch.

The Get Out & Fish! Program seeks to increase the number of people with access to quality fishing, recruit new anglers to the sport of fishing, and promote outdoor activities for future generations. Through this program, LDWF regularly stocks the pond at Bogue Chitto State Park with adult-size Channel Catfish in the spring and fall and Rainbow Trout in the winter, with the intention of establishing an easily accessible community fishing pond in the Franklinton area.
