Iberia Rod and Gun Club to host 61st annual rodeo at Cypremort Point

Features almost $10,000 in cash and prizes, slated for July 3-5

The Iberia Rod and Gun Club will host its 61st annual saltwater fishing rodeo featuring almost $10,000 in cash and prizes over the 4th of July weekend at Cypremort Point.

The rodeo begins at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, July 3 and ends at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5.

Iberia Rod and Gun Club president and rodeo chairman Brock Pellerin said offshore boats can depart no sooner than noon on July 2, but they are free to launch at any location of their choice.

“The offshore boats can launch from anywhere they want, but they have to come back and weigh-in by boat at Quintana Landing,” Pellerin said.

Anglers can participate in four divisions for the rodeo: junior, inside, offshore and diving.

Inside and junior division categories include redfish, speckled trout, garfish, drum, white trout, flounder, sheepshead, croaker and slot redfish.

Inside division anglers will compete for $3,200 in cash and prizes, while offshore fishermen will go after $6,500 in cash and prizes, Pellerin said.

In addition, every junior division angler who finishes with a fish on the board at the end of the rodeo will receive a trophy plus a rod and reel, he said.

Weigh-in times are from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, with trophies and awards presented immediately after the scales close.

Tickets are $25 per angler for the inside division, $55 per angler for offshore, $25 for the diving division and $5 per junior division angler (15 and under).

Tickets are available at Cajun Guns & Tackle, Dago’s, Hebert’s Mini-Mart, Buck Fins & Feathers and Dock Side Marina at the Point, and include a free meal Saturday night and a fais-do-do under the Quintana Pavilion.

Rodeo headquarters will be at Quintana Landing at Cypremort Point.
