Houma set to host two IFA Championship events later this month

Kayak Fishing Tour Championship set for Oct. 17-19, Redfish Tour Championship scheduled for Oct. 25-26

With increased payouts and contingency prizes, the Inshore Fishing Association will stage two tour championship events later this month in Houma.

According to a press release, the championship for the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour presented by Hobie will begin with registration on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 5-7 p.m. at Quality Hotel of Houma on Hollywood Road.

A captain’s meeting will immediately follow registration, and anglers will launch from the location of their choice on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19.

Weigh-ins will be conducted at the Quality Hotel, with check-in times to be announced during Thursday’s captain’s meeting.

All anglers who fished at least two regular-season kayak events will qualify for the $50 entry-fee championship.

First-place prize at the IFA Kayak Championship Presented by Hobie Fishing, regardless of field size, is a Hobie Mirage Pro Angler kayak valued at $2,549. Second and third place finishers will be awarded cash prizes of $1,500 and $750, respectively, with a Hobie Advantage Prize of $1,000 going to the highest-place finish for an angler competing out of a Hobie kayak.

The championship for the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s will run Oct. 25-26, with a pre-tournament captain’s meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Quality Hotel.

Anglers will launch each day at safe light from Falgout Canal Marina (located at 1868 Doctor Beatrous Road in Theriot) and return to the marina for each day’s weigh-in.

Teams fishing any two of the IFA Redfish Tour’s ten regular-season events are automatically qualified for a $250 entry-fee championship event, pitting qualifiers from each of the five divisions for lucrative payouts and prize packages. The Divisional Teams of the Year will also compete for the coveted Cabela’s Overall Team of the Year Award.

The 2013 IFA Redfish Tour Championship will award first and second-place finishers, guaranteed, with a Ranger 184 Ghost w/a Yamaha 150HP Package ($45,000) and a Ranger Banshee Extreme w/a Yamaha 60HP ($30,000). Cabela’s Overall Team of the Year will receive a check from Cabela’s for $5,000.

Interested anglers can contact the Quality Hotel at 985-868-5851, or the Falgout Canal Marina at 985-872-1636, according to the release.
