Faux Pas Lodge Rodeo set for July 24-26 in Venice

Registration closes July 22

The 16th Annual Faux Pas Lodge Rodeo is slated for July 24-26 out of Venice Marina.

Rodeo Coordinator Kleo Blue said he’s expecting another big turnout for the three-day event that gets cranked up with fishing starting at midnight Thursday.

“We usually have 150-plus boats and 800 to 900 anglers,” Blue said.

Registration is $40 per angler, with $5 from each entry going to the Recreational Fisheries Research Institute, a non-profit conservation, research and outreach group.

Registration forms can be downloaded here, but must be turned in by Tuesday evening, July 22nd at the Captain’s Party at Southport Hall in New Orleans to be eligible to participate in the rodeo, Blue said.

The rodeo offers anglers of all skill levels four different divisions: inshore, rig, offshore and live redfish.

Additional prizes include calcuttas for the largest fish per species, grand slam calcuttas per division, blue marlin tag and release, heaviest five-trout stringer and redfish with the most spots.

Scales will be open from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday.

All boats weighing fish must be checked in by a tournament committee boat at the mouth of the Venice Marina.

As in previous years, a very special event will take place Wednesday before the rodeo officially begins, Blue said.

“We take 20 special needs kids from Miracle League and Children’s Hospital with guides from the Venice area and bring the kids fishing,” he said. “It’s called Wish to Fish, and the kids go back with a good bit of rodeo swag as well as Wish to Fish swag.”

Hotard Coaches donates transporting the children to Venice, and sponsors including CCA Louisiana, Igloo ice chests and Faux Pas Prints provide additional prizes, he said.
