51st Annual Hell Divers Spearfishing Rodeo scheduled for June 5-8

Competition open to all inland and offshore waters, weigh-in set for June 8 at Kenner City Park

The 51st Annual Hell Divers Spearfishing Rodeo is slated for June 5-8, with weigh-in scheduled that Sunday at the Kenner City Park pavilion from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

What started out as a sheepshead shooting competition in Lake Pontchartrain back in 1963 has grown into the largest spearfishing rodeo in Louisiana, with competition open to all inland and offshore waters.

The entry fee is $50 and includes a T-shirt.

First, second and third place prizes will be available for red snapper, cobia, grouper, mangrove snapper, Jack Crevalle, barracuda, stingray, sheepshead and more.

Awards also will be given for King and Queen Spearfisherman, Best Club, Best Boat and several additional categories, with a total of 55 awards provided for competitors.

The weigh-in, which takes place at 3800 Loyola Drive, is free and open to the public.
