17th Annual Swollfest Fishing Rodeo set for June 5-7 at Grand Isle

Features seven divisions, registration available online

Swollfest 2014 is set to crank up with great fishing, music and food next Thursday through Saturday out of Sand Dollar Marina on Grand Isle.

The rodeo features seven divisions – blue water, coastal, inshore, kayak, women’s, children and the all-for-fun belly-buzzard – and the entry fee is $55 per person before June 1. Kids 12 and under are $15, and the adult fee after June 1 goes to $60.

Over the years, Swollfest has raised more than $600,000 for charities, including the American Diabetes Association, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Swollfest Outdoor Wish Foundation, Friends of Grand Isle and more.

Fishing will begin at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, with official weigh-ins at the Sand Dollar from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for about 8 p.m. Saturday night.

All 1st place winners receive a custom-made award by the Benjamin Collection Design Company, and all 1st place winners in the blue water, coastal, inshore and kayak divisions also win a Yeti ice chest.

Five major awards also will be presented for best offshore boat, best inshore boat, champion kayak fisherman, overall Swollfest fish and the 2014 Swollfest Inspirational Award.
