Speed kills

Howard Callahan believes in fast shot as the most effective method of bringing down ducks.

“Speed kills. You want to be about 1,550 feet per second,” he said. “You can change your shot size, but make sure speed does not go down.

“I use 2¾-inch 1/16-ounce 4 shot and 3-inch 1/8-ounce 3 shot, same speed, 1,550. I also bring 1-ounce 6 shot for cripples.”
