Doe, button buck and 12-gauge shotgun seized in the case, LDWF says
Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrested two New Orleans men for allegedly spotlighting deer in a neighborhood in New Orleans East Tuesday night.
According to a press release, Ruben F. Ramos, 37, and Andres Cordoba, 40, were cited for illegally discharging a weapon and taking deer during illegal hours with artificial light.
Acting on complaints of night-hunting near the neighborhood, agents arrived on the scene and observed two subjects running into the woods, and found a doe and button buck where the subjects were last seen.
After a brief search, agents found Ramos existing the woods. He told agents Cordoba was with him, and where he lived, the release states.
At Cordoba’s apartment a few hours later, he allegedly showed agents the shotgun used to take both deer, according to the release.
Both men admitted to taking the deer and were booked into the Orleans Parish Prison, the release states. The two deer and shotgun were seized during the investigation.
Illegal discharge of a weapon brings up to a $1,000 fine and two years of jail. Taking deer during illegal hours with artificial light carries a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Ramos and Córdoba could also face civil restitution for the illegally taken deer totaling $3,249.22, the release states.
