The right glass

Lightweight binoculars are a must when hunting deer in the marsh, particularly in October.

Assistant Product Manager for Bushnell’s Outdoor Product Division Jim Wilson points out that more mojo isn’t necessarily better.

“Many first-time buyers assume that they want as powerful a binocular as possible, when the opposite is often the case,” Wilson said. “Most experienced hunters and birders use no more than 8 or 10 power.

“Higher-power binoculars magnify the effects of shaky hands too much to provide comfortable viewing for long periods of time, and they won’t give you as bright an image with as wide a field of view as an 8-power or 10-power model.”
