The absolute joys of the season

Why is this my favorite time of the year? Well let’s review:

• LSU is playing football – check.
• The Saints are defending their World Championship – huge check.
• Bow season is very near – check, check.
• I have plenty days of annual leave stored up to hunt – Ch-ch-cheeeck.
• Cool weather is coming soon – hopeful check

Yes, at this time of the year, all is right with the world. We are all so hopeful about whichever football team we root for to win it all. Dreams of that ultimate buck dance in our heads. The duck, squirrel and rabbit hunters look to fill their freezers. Cold weather, snow-skiing trips, family get-togethers for the holidays – all of these things and more await us all. Who wouldn’t be excited about all of these endless possibilities? There is something for everyone.

For me, personally, my bow season will begin Oct. 1st at the Atchafalaya Delta WMA. This is a tradition that dates back over 20 years.  I’ve been blessed to have time off from work for nearly every opener.  If all goes well, and God says the same, I will again have many opportunities this bow season to pursue both deer and wild hogs.

Just the simple boat ride down to the Delta for a pre-season scouting trip fills me with hope and anticipation of what is to come. I am so thankful for the opportunity to experience nature and all that our state has to offer.

Did I mention how much I love this time of year?
