EXO-Tech Safety Harnesses have been recalled because users could fall while using them, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Nov. 18. Owners of the harnesses manufactured by Gorilla Inc. are urged to stop using them immediately.
The harnesses were sold between May and August through sporting goods stores such as Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops nationwide. They cost about $200.
The voluntary recall came after it was discovered that the waist belt webbing was not routed through the lineman’s loop on the front of the harness near waist level. The webbing is attached only through stitching, which means it could pull away from the harness and leave users unrestrained.
Gorilla Inc. also used a previously untested carabiner connecter at the end of the harness back.
The harness has two leg and shoulder straps connected to a waist belt and padded back support. A long, black tether strap at the top rear of the safety harness, which has gray and red accents. The name “EXO-Tech” is found on the right front shoulder strap, and the name “Gorilla” is found on the left front shoulder strap. Both names are in white lettering.
There also is a white manufacturing label on the inside of the harness’ back. The tag contains the model number 45111 and the manufacturing days of 4/22/2009 or 6/26/2009.
Less than 100 of the harnesses were sold, and there were no reported incidences related to the harnesses.
