Maurepas Swamp WMA deer season open as flood waters recede

Deer season in the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA) has opened as flood waters have receded below the benchmark closure level, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced.

The closure was enacted when the USGS water level gauge CRMS 5373 reached 3.0 feet. The deer season opened once the water fell below 2.5 feet on the gauge. Maurepas Swamp WMA, which consists of 112,615 acres, is located approximately 25 miles west of New Orleans and along the south shore of Lake Maurepas west to near Sorrento.
