Maurepas Swamp WMA deer season benchmark closure

Deer season in the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA), scheduled to open Thursday, Oct. 1, will be closed due to water levels exceeding the high water benchmark closure, enacted by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in Title 76.

The closure is enacted when the USGS water level gauge CRMS 5373 reaches 3.0 feet. The deer season will open once the water falls below 2.5 feet on the gauge.
