Marksville man busted for alleged thefts on Spring Bayou WMA

Laiche accused of stealing money from campsite self-pay box, LDWF says

Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrested a 19-year-old Marksville man accused of stealing money from the self-pay campsite box on Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area in Avoyelles Parish.

According to a press release, Barry Ray Laiche II was arrested on May 8 on counts of theft and WMA violations.

Spring Bayou WMA personnel had alerted wildlife agents when they noticed the box where campers pay their overnight fees was continually short of money.

During the last month, a camera showed an individual taking money out of the self-pay box several times, according to the release.

On the evening of May 7, agents set up a surveillance and about 1 a.m. allegedly saw Laiche remove envelopes from the box using a specially-outfitted tool, the release states. He was apprehended on the way back to his truck, and admitted the $146 agents found on him was from the self-pay box, the release states.

Agents booked Laiche into the Avoyelles Parish Jail in Marksville on five counts of theft, 15 counts of violating rules and regulations on a WMA,  no driver’s license and one count of littering.
