Body of missing Denham Springs man found in Intracoastal Canal

Haley fell off houseboat in Grand River on May 1, LDWF says

Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recovered the body of a 61-year-old Denham Springs man this morning who fell off a houseboat last Friday night in the Grand River.

According to a press release, James L. Haley’s body was found about 10:15 near the Bayou Sorrell locks 12 miles south of Plaquemine, or 9 miles downstream from where he fell into the water last Friday night.

According to eyewitnesses, Haley stepped off a houseboat and slipped about 10:30 that night while attempting to return to his own vessel. He fell into the water, surfaced twice and then disappeared, the release states.

His body was turned over to the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death, according to the release.
