Significant impacts from Hurricane Zeta are preventing safe access to the refuge
Due to significant impacts from Hurricane Zeta, LDWF reminds anglers that the Elmer’s Island Refuge remains closed.
The access road to the refuge has sustained significant damage, preventing safe travel to the island. Additionally, there is a tremendous amount of storm debris along the access road and beach that will require removal.
Efforts are underway to arrange for both debris removal and road repairs so the public can regain access to the refuge.
