The body of a 61-year-old Baton Rouge woman missing since Dec. 28 was found yesterday (Jan. 12) on the Bogue Chitto River, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported.LDWF agents found the body of Kathy Holloway at 7:30 a.m about a quarter of a mile from where they found her capsized vessel on Dec. 28. LDWF agents, along with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are still searching for Holloway’s husband, 63-year-old William Holloway.
The couple was reported missing on Dec. 28, when a passing boater on the Bogue Chitto found a capsized vessel at 10 a.m. The last known contact the Holloways, who were camping on Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge, had was at 3 p.m. on Dec. 27.
Their 14-foot aluminum flat bottom boat was found about a mile from the boat launch at Lock No. 3 Road on the Pearl River Navigational Canal. LDWF retrieved the boat, and is investigating the cause of this boating incident.
Search crews from LDWF, USFWS and STSO have been searching during daylight hours since the report of the capsized vessel. Search crews have deployed sonar technology to search the water, helicopters to search the surrounding land and banks, dragging equipment and search dogs. Searchers have found a rifle, compound bow and a duffel bag full of clothes that also belonged to the Holloways since starting their search.
Kathy’s body was turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coronor’s office for autopsy to give an official cause of death.
