L.D.W.F. issues partial closure for the Sherburne W.M.A. shooting range complex

Due to damage caused by Hurricane Gustav, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has temporarily closed two portions of the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) shooting range complex.

LDWF closed Sherburne’s shotgun and pistol ranges until repairs can be completed. Sherburne’s rifle and archery ranges will remain open for public use everyday from official sunrise to sunset.

The Sherburne WMA is located in Pointe Coupee, St. Martin and Iberville parishes.

The rifle range has targets at 25, 50 and 100 yards. The archery range has targets at 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards and also features a 15-foot tower, which can be used to shoot at 3-D targets.

Additional information may be obtained from the LDWF Opelousas Office by phone at 337-948-0255 or by calling the Sherburne shooting range complex at 337-566-2251.
