Until a week ago, John James of New Orleans had never been to Shell Beach.
But James caught the tail end of a radio interview of Robby Campo conducted by local personality Kaare Johnson. Campo was discussing the complete annihilation of his family’s marina caused by Hurricane Isaac.”(Johnson) asked Mr. Campo if he had a Web site people could go to if they wanted to donate money,” James recounted. “Mr. Campo said he didn’t know how to set up a Web site.”
James did, and he was moved by the message, so he built saveshellbeach.com, a Web site dedicated to raising money to help the Campo family rebuild their iconic marina.
“It felt right to do,” James said. “I did some research on Mr. Campo’s grandfather, Blackie Campo, and learned what kind of a man he was.
“I realized what we have here is an emergency situation.”
James is seeking to raise $25,000 to defray some of the costs of rebuilding the marina.
