Louisiana Recreational Shrimping Regulations

The regulations for recreational shrimping in Louisiana can be found at www.wlf.louisiana.gov or in the 2013 Louisiana Fishing Regulations.

These regs include:

• Basic and saltwater fishing licenses are required.

• A gear license is required. The cost for trawls 16 feet and under is $25. The cost for trawls over 16 feet but not more than 25 feet is $80.

• Trawling is allowed in open areas and during open seasons for each zone. Seasons are announced prior to their openings by the LDWF (see regulations).

• Recreational limits is 100 pounds for trawls 16 feet and under and 250 pounds for trawls over 16 feet but no more than 25 feet, per day per boat.

• Shrimp cannot be sold or used in commerce.

• Certain mesh sizes are required (see regulations).
