How to access Sabine Lake

For anglers new to the area, Sabine Lake is an brackish estuary of stretching 23 miles long and nine miles that eventually pours into the Gulf of Mexico south of Port Arthur, Texas.

The lake is fed by two major river basins: the Sabine and the Neches.

Road access in Louisiana is via Highway 82 approximately three miles west of Johnson’s Bayou. The lake sits between Cameron Parish on the eastern border, and Jefferson and Orange counties of Texas on the west.

The most-popular access point to Sabine Lake on the Louisiana side is the Causeway landing located on Highway 82 just west of Johnson Bayou.

Another Louisiana landing located across the Sabine River channel from Orange is the burnt-out bridge on old U.S. Highway 90. Anglers with larger bay boats are warned to use caution here because the canal is narrow and big boats have been damaged.

When launching and landing at these locations, Louisiana trout creel and length limits apply unless you are checked fishing in Texas waters (get maps and use GPS coordinates).
