Buras man cited for allegedly shrimping during closed season

More than 1,400 pounds of shrimp seized and sold, LDWF says

Enforcement agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited a Buras man for allegedly using skimmers during a closed shrimp season on July 12 in Plaquemines Parish, according to a press release.

Timothy P. Cheramie, 32, was ticketed for using skimmers during a closed season after agents responded to reports of illegal shrimping taking place near Buras, the release states.

During the stop, agents seized and sold 1,413 pounds of shrimp. Using skimmers in a closed season carries up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail, plus forfeiture of anything seized, according to the release.
