Get knotty with the FG knot

Learn to tie the FG knot

Learning the FG knot is well worth the trouble.

I recently went out for a half-day with Capt. Matt McCabe  of Pro Edge Fishing out of Slidell. He services Lake Pontchartrain and the surrounding marshes. When I got to the dock to meet him, he was in the middle of tying a bizarre knot between his main line and fluorocarbon leader. Naturally I asked him about the knot and he offered to show me how to tie it.

It took me a few tries to get the hang of it, but it’s well worth the effort. I fished with the knot, and it’s as seamless as you can get when it comes to reeling a knot through rod guides. The FG doesn’t “vriiiip” as it comes and goes through guides and it retains right at 100% of your line’s strength. Check out this video then do a little research online. It’s worth learning.
