Season would begin on Oct. 1 and close the last day of February, LDWF says
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission on Thursday considered a notice of intent that would modify the ban on commercial fishing gear at Poverty Point and establish a commercial fishing season on the 2,700-acre man-made reservoir in Richland Parish.
The NOI proposes removing the current net ban to allow for the legal harvest of commercial fish during a special recurring trammel and gill netting season that would begin on Oct. 1 and close on the last day of February the following year.
Commercial fishing would only be allowed in designated areas, and while gear could remain overnight, fish would be harvested during daylight hours only.
Hoop nets, wire nets and fish seines will remain prohibited.
