New fishing line could benefit crappie anglers

When folks spool up their reels with line before heading off to Lake D’Arbonne, they typically use anything from 4- to 10-pound test. Honey Hole Tackle Shop owner David Owen prefers 6-pound test because he believes it’s a good combination of finesse and strength.

With Berkley’s new NanoFil Uni-Filament fishing line, white perch anglers like Owen can now have their cake and eat it, too, with a line that offers superline strength with monofilament smoothness.

NanoFil is made out of gel-spun polyethylene, much like a superline, and it has been designed especially for use in spinning reels like the ultralight rigs any white perch anglers use on Lake D’Arbonne.

“Thin and smooth are the first things that came to my mind when I first touched it,” said 2010 Walleye Tournament Champion Johnnie Candle. “NanoFil lends itself to a wide variety of techniques, but it is most useful when anglers need an ultra-small-diameter line for greater casting yet also desire sensitivity to feel the subtlest of bites.”
