Drawdown on Lake Lafourche scheduled to begin Sept. 16

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is scheduled to begin a drawdown for Lake Lafourche in Caldwell Parish on Sept. 16 and will continue through Nov. 30, 2024. The lake will be lowered to a level of five feet below pool stage at a rate of approximately four inches per day.

The action is taken in coordination with the Lake Lafourche Commission and the LDWF Office of Wildlife to allow for construction of a new boat launch at the Arrowhead Point area at the end of Templeton Bend Road located on Boeuf Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Construction of the launch will begin as soon as the lake is low enough to allow.

An additional benefit of the drawdown will be an anticipated improvement to the fisheries by allowing the lake bottom in the shallows to thoroughly dry, which provides for better spawning substrate for gamefish such as bream, bass, and crappie.

The last drawdown of the lake occurred in fall 2010. Home and camp owners are encouraged to make appropriate accommodations. The lake will not be closed to fishing during the drawdown, though caution is advised for boaters as this lake is filled with numerous stumps.
