Brand new Sportsman TV: Tagging redfish for CCA Star near Grand Isle

Check out the latest episode tonight at 6:30 on CST

The CCA Louisiana STAR (Statewide Tournament and Anglers Rodeo) begins Saturday, May 26,  and concludes on Labor Day, Sept. 3. During the competition, anglers compete for over $500,000 in prizes. Its signature division is the Tagged Redfish Division. CCA releases 100 tagged redfish each year, and if you are in the tournament and catch one, you win!

Louisiana Sportsman TV recently got together with STAR Tournament Director Rad Trascher and Capt. Eddie Berthelot of Spots and Specks Charters to tag a few redfish for the tournament. The group met in Grand Isle and traveled to a well known fishing area nearby. CCA likes to release the fish where anglers often frequent so that there is a higher chance of being caught.

The group used live shrimp and popping corks to catch the fish they needed. Berthelot focused on the shallow banks of a main channel to locate the fish. With a low tide, fish were concentrated.

In the episode, Trascher takes the time to talk about the many prizes available and the rules and regulations of STAR. Hackney encourages viewers to join the tournament as you do not want to catch a tagged redfish without being registered. The crew caught and tagged prize winning redfish on camera with the hopes that a lucky angler will catch one of them.
