Where to on Toledo Bend

Frogs can certainly get bites anywhere on the lake, but vegetation is the key to consistent results.

“The bass spawn sort of trickled down the lake north to south last year, but you have much more vegetation south,” Johnny Watkins said. “There are also more primary and secondary points in the southern portion.

“Personally, I like fishing the Hausen Bay area, the Indian Mounds and Six Mile Creek, where the water usually remains clear but not as clear as areas more south near the dam. And I like to fish these areas when the lake elevation is at 169 and 170 feet.”

As for Jason Pittman, he’ll fish any location on the lake that holds decent vegetation, including the 1215 area. But he has his preference for frog fishing.

“I’ll be keying on decent vegetation, such as grass and lily pads,” he said. “I would emphasize the south end of the lake to include the Indian Mounds area, locations near Pirate’s Cove and Mill’s Creek.

“There are certainly some sweet spots down there, and I would advise visiting anglers to look at maps before coming down to see what interests them.”

As for launching and landing locations, North Toledo Park is a great location to reach the vegetation found there and the 1215 area.

Cypress Bend offers access to Hausen Bay and the Indian Mounds, whereas Pirate’s Cove Marina and South Toledo Bend State Park are launch sites to get to the Six Mile and Mill Creek locations.
