Other great baits for Atchafalaya Basin bass

When Lafayette’s Billy Billeaud isn’t fishing a jig, he is usually using a Brush Hog or a Beaver-style bait.

Creature baits such as brush hogs, are year-round favorites.

His favorite colors are june bug, black with red glitter and green pumpkin.

The bulk of his tournament fishing is done with jigs or creature baits, with one exception: During colder winter months, Billeaud prefers Sweet Beavers or their look-alikes, Z-Hogs, instead of Brush Hogs.

His rationale is that Brush Hogs show too much movement and not enough glide.

He also likes Texas-rigged Sweet Beavers and Z-Hogs for heavy-duty lily punching.
