Light and lenses

Shielding your eyes is essential for optimal visibility, and some of the newer technologies offer notable developments.

For example, Vicious Fishing partnered with tenured optometrist Doug Jordan, who has brought the Xperio UV technology to fishing style sunglasses in the Vicious Vision lineup.

Xperio UV lenses offer a lighter alternative to heavy glass lenses, but with similar quality across the entire lens.

Many sunglasses feature polycarbonate lenses punched out of sheet material and heat-formed to fit frames. This can create light/color distortions around the edges, but Xperio UV lenses provide consistent form from edge to edge.

The lens design features molecular chains within the polarizing film that eliminates glare, while presenting optimal clarity and color. They’re also hydrophobic, which means water runs off without vision-impairing beads.

WileyX offers a Climate Control line that features a patented, removable soft-foam Facial Cavity Seal to block out wind, dust, debris and reflected light. This creates a safe, climate-controlled environment for the eyes and enables anglers to focus on the task at hand.

Bassmaster Elite pro Edwin Evers, who likes the blue mirror lenses in the WileyX Air Rages model, said versatility was the deciding factor in his choice of glasses.

“I love how tightly these glasses fit on my face, but then you can take that a step further and put those gaskets in there, and then you have no light (getting in),” he said. When you’re looking into the water, the farther you are away from that bass, that’s the biggest key.

“Because if you can see him before he can see you, you’re going to be in great shape. A quality pair of sunglasses is going to help you do that.”

For anglers who need high-quality polarized protection in prescription lenses, the Wiley X Rx Rim System provides these already Rx-ready frames with expanded Rx capabilities up to +5.00 and -7.00. Vicious Vision glasses are also available in prescription lenses.
