What’s in a name? Well, pretty much everything when that name is Salt Flick’R.
The new 6-inch heavy-loaded-salt bait from Gene Larew Lures is a “sinking” worm, a shaky worm, a “trick’ worm, a do-nothing worm and a swimbait, all wrapped up in a single design. And while it borrows the best characteristics from each of the various lures mentioned, the Salt Flick’R is one of kind when it comes to looks and performance.
The “Flick’R” name comes from the fact that’s what this worm is always doing the minute it hits the water – “flickering.” By its design, the Salt Flick’R always has something moving, whether it be its hyperactive swimming legs, its head or tail, or some part of its flexible body in between.
There’s no doubt the bait is a worm, but it has a unique oval shape to it with somewhat of a slight bulge in the middle. This feature adds to its wacky-rigging prowess. The head is solid with plenty of meat to provide a solid foundation for holding a jig head or worm hook. Then you get to the exciting parts.
While the worm’s back is smooth like most worms, its underside is jagged like a good tree saw blade. The jagged, ribbed underside is what makes this bait so special when an angler is using it for what it does best – dragging or flickering it across the bottom.
Rigging the Salt Flick’R on a jig head and reeling it with a steady, relatively quick retrieve creates some interesting dynamics down below. Since it is somewhat segmented by the ribbed design, the body is always quivering throughout its length with movement. And since the segments on the underside are like teeth, they’re always biting into whatever they come in contact with, causing the bait to stop and start erratically by mere friction from the contact. The action proves deadly in enticing bass to bait.
