Not only does Eric Williamson catch a ton of bass flipping the canes out of Venice, but he also targets the ubiquitous rocks in the area.
“I fish every set of rocks I see,” Williamson said.
In fact, on one trip this summer, he caught his biggest fish of the day — an 18-pound stringer — on a set of rocks that’s one of his staples.
Williamson used to throw nothing but spinnerbaits and crankbaits on the rocks, but this year, he’s begun to pitch Okeechobee-colored Speed Craws to the hard structure.
“Those fish eat a lot of shrimp, and I think that Speed Craw resembles a 16-count shrimp to them,” he said.
Williamson said almost all the bites come within the first 2 or 3 feet from the rocks.
