2023 Fish of the Year winners

Two well-deserving Louisiana anglers will be presented with the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association’s (LOWA) prestigious Fish of the Year Awards 2023 at the LOWA annual convention in Lake Charles, La., on Aug. 4-5.

Annually, LOWA honors the anglers voted by the LOWA Fish Records Committee to have had the most significant catch in the previous year in both Rod & Reel and Fly Fishing Divisions. The winners will receive their awards Saturday night, Aug. 5, during the LOWA Awards Banquet, held at the Holiday Inn Express in Lake Charles.

Winners for the 2023 LOWA Fish of Year are:

The top angler that will be recognized in the Rod & Reel Division is Sue Beiriger of Gonzales, La., will be presented this coveted award for her feat of landing with a 42.95 Yellowedge Grouper caught in the Gulf of Mexico, a new state record.

The top angler that will be recognized in the Fly Fishing Division is John Pitre of Boyce, La., will be presented this coveted award for his feat of landing a 1.00 Redear Sunfish fishing in Kincaid Lake, a new state record.
