Incredible road trip to the mouth of the Mississippi River!

Take one step past the town of Venice, La., and it feels like you’ll fall off into the abyss. It’s far down the road, past absolutely everything, with its only neighbor being the mouth of the continent’s largest river.

This time of year, that river slows to a crawl, allowing all sorts of fishy creatures to move in and take advantage of rich bait stocks. The low water also yanks bass from their year-round hiding places, creating a perfect storm of truly incredible fishing opportunities.

This week, three buddies and I made the long drive down Highway 23, and the action surpassed even our lofty expectations.
